1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using DIYRuler ("the Service"), you accept and agree to be bound by the terms and provision of this agreement. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our service.
2. Description of Service
DIYRuler provides construction calculation tools and material estimators for residential building projects, including drywall, concrete, paint, flooring, framing, stud spacing, roofing, electrical, plumbing (pipe / water heater / fixtures / drain), and HVAC (BTU) load sizing.
Supporting features include:
- Project mode — group multiple rooms or sub-projects together for a combined estimate.
- Pricing controls — every material price can be overridden to match local quotes. Regional presets are available as a starting point.
- Cost layers — optional waste factor, labor, overhead, sales tax, and delivery rates can be layered on top of materials.
- Imperial / metric units — toggleable across the suite.
- Share + print + PDF — encode a calculation into a URL or print a clean estimate sheet.
3. Use License
Permission is granted to temporarily use DIYRuler for personal and commercial construction projects. This license shall automatically terminate if you violate any of these restrictions and may be terminated by us at any time.
Under this license you may not:
- Modify or copy the materials
- Use the materials for any commercial purpose without permission or for any public display
- Attempt to reverse engineer any software contained on the website

4. Disclaimer
The calculations and estimates provided by DIYRuler are for informational and planning purposes only. They are simplified estimates, not engineered specifications. While we strive for accuracy, we make no warranties or guarantees about the precision, reliability, or completeness of these calculations.
Specific limitations to be aware of:
- HVAC sizing (BTU calculator) uses a simplified Manual J–style model with typical residential assumptions. It is not a substitute for a professional Manual J calculation when sizing equipment for installation.
- Structural elements (rebar layout, header sizing, beam spans, stud spacing for load-bearing walls) are quick estimates only. Structural decisions must be reviewed by a licensed engineer or building official.
- Pricing data — default and regional preset prices are sampled at a point in time and vary by retailer and market. Always confirm with a current quote before purchasing materials.
- Code compliance — calculators do not verify compliance with local building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or fire codes. Code requirements vary by jurisdiction and are your responsibility.
Users should verify all calculations and consult with qualified professionals before making construction decisions. DIYRuler is not responsible for any errors, omissions, or results obtained from the use of this information.
5. Professional Consultation
Our calculators are tools to assist in planning and estimation. For complex projects, structural work, or situations involving safety concerns, always consult with licensed professionals including contractors, engineers, electricians, and plumbers as appropriate.
6. Limitations of Liability
In no event shall DIYRuler or its suppliers be liable for any damages (including, without limitation, damages for loss of data or profit, or due to business interruption) arising out of the use or inability to use the materials on DIYRuler's website, even if DIYRuler or an authorized representative has been notified orally or in writing of the possibility of such damage.
